Acupuncture for Asthma TreatmentThe use of acupuncture for asthma treatment relies on some fundamental principles. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) or Oriental Medicine, the basic cause for manifestation of asthma is the presence of phlegm. TCM describes the flow of water to be regulated by three important organs, which are the lungs, spleen, and kidneys.

A note about Acupuncture for Asthma TreatmentIn natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases. In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. Taking these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of certain holistic remedies. The function of the lungs is to control the movement of water in the upper jiao or upper part of the body, the function of the spleen is to regulate water in the middle jia or middle part of body, and the kidneys facilitate water metabolism in the lower jiao or lower part of the body. If there is a disturbance in the yin and yang energy poles in any of these three organs it will result in blocking the water circulation and this blockage will be responsible for creating and storing phlegm in the lungs. This blocked water or stored phlegm in the lungs is responsible for recurrent asthma problems. This increase in phlegm stored in the lungs will create deficiencies at all three organ levels by obstructing the airways. Due to obstruction and deficiency in the lungs, the lungs will not get enough air or oxygen, deficiency of the kidneys will result in the kidneys being unable to get air, and this will go on to the spleen becoming deficient and overall there will be an increase in the level of phlegm which will obstruct the airways. Ultimately, on the one hand the amount of phlegm increases and the amount of air or oxygen intake decreases. One is in excess mode and another in deficient mode, bringing about an imbalance. Asthma could be due to various conditions and depending upon the type of asthma, acupuncture for asthma treatment will be customized and carried out. Below listed are some of the causes for asthma and the related acupuncture for asthma treatment: Asthma caused because of cold If the lungs are subject to cold, there will be a disruption in the regular activity of the lungs, which is to control the energy or qi and facilitate respiration. Cold manifests itself by tightening the bronchi, making the patient experience congestion in the chest. The external symptoms of this problem will be shortness of breath, pain associated with breathing, and asphyxiation. The primary function of the lung to control water passages will fail, resulting in accumulation of water in the lungs resulting in phlegm. Treatment using acupuncture for asthma due to cold involves sedating the lungs and removing the phlegm. The main acupoints generally include the lungs, bladder, and kidneys at specific key points. Asthma caused because of heat In conditions in which heat damages the lungs, the lungs will not be able to carry out their function of controlling the qi and respiration activity smoothly. Asthma caused due to heat will create choking in patients with persistent coughing bouts, and intercostal distention. There will be phlegm accumulation marked by wheezing, crackling sounds, rales, and roaring noise in the throat. Sputum will be thick and yellow in nature and difficult to express. Patients here will generally lift their shoulders while breathing. When asthma is caused due to heat, patients will experience fever, perspiration, headache with thirst. The tongue is generally red in color with a yellow colored coating. Pulse will be rapid. Treatment using acupuncture for asthma due to heat involves dispersing the phlegm from the lungs, clearing the heat being generated in the body by concentrating on decreasing the harmful qi or energy that is rising from various trigger points like the liver. When energy stagnates in the liver, it gets converted to heat or fire, which could be responsible for asthma caused due to heat.
