A note about Essential Oils for Hair CareIn natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases. In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. Taking these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of certain holistic remedies. For centuries, essential oils have been used to enhance hair's luster and vitality. Hair tonics can be used to naturally care for and enhance hair appearance and texture. Most essential oils work by influencing the sebaceous glands, normalizing their function and assuring that the individual hairs remain lubricated properly and protected. These tonics need not be applied to wet hair, and should be used regularly. In using essential oils for hair care, in addition to improving the hairs themselves, the scalp will also be toned and improved. You can use cider vinegar as a base, as it will restore the scalp's natural pH balance. The tonic should be shaken well before application. The tonic's essential oil elements should be based on any problems that need to be remedied with the scalp, such as dandruff or thinning hair. Dandruff can be treated with lavender, rosemary, juniper, or tea-tree oil, while thinning hair responds well to rosemary or sandalwood. For general hair care, chamomile, rosemary, nettle, or clary sage added to a natural shampoo will gently cleanse hair and condition the scalp. Always try to cleanse the scalp and rinse hair for the last two or three minutes in cold water. There are specific useful essential oils for hair of different textures. Pachouli added to mild shampoo will greatly improve overly oily hair, as will lemongrass and rosemary. Dry hair benefits from cleansing with shampoo fortified with cade or cedarwood. A bi-monthly scalp massage will also benefit both the hairs' strength and appearance. How about essential oils for hair of different colors? At this time, fair hair can be rinsed in fresh lemon juice or chamomile, and dark hair in apple cider or rosemary to increase shine and manageability. It will also enhance color over time. Hair that has split hairs or dullness due to damage will especially benefit from this ritual. Scalp health can be further improved by using shampoo enhanced with basil, which stimulates circulation to the scalp area. One of the most soothing essential oils, chamomile helps to withdraw skin cells that have been inflamed from chemical procedures, sun exposure and because of conditions like psoriasis or dandruff. Lavender works in a similar fashion, and has a very comforting scent. Peppermint-enhanced shampoos make the scalp tingle, a sign blood flow to the root of the hair has been stimulated, assuring that the hair receives nourishment and grows correctly. In using essential oils for hair care, always remember to never apply these essential oils directly to the hair. Rather, add them to a mild shampoo or to carrier oil, such as jojoba. Individuals with oily hair should not apply oil treatments often, but oil treatments work well for dry hair or hair that lacks sheen. Olive oil can be combined with other nicer smelling essential oils, and has been found to be especially beneficial for dry hair. Apply the oil to towel-dried hair and leave on for at least half an hour. Jojoba oil can be used with any hair and skin type. Extremely damaged hair will benefit from this oil's healing powers. Apply as with the olive oil.
