First Do No Harm - in harmony with how the human body worksby Webmaster, All4NaturalHealth.com Natural Health Principle No. 4 Natural health and healing seeks to adhere to "first do no harm", working in harmony WITH the body and not against it. Say you have a pain or health problem today, which measures 5 out of 10 on the "how serious scale". I now present you an option - you can press a certain button, and the problem will 100% go away, for now. But in a year's time, the problem, now measuring 6 out of 10 on the scale, will resurface. You can press the same button again, but the probably of the problem going away drops to 80%. Suppose the problem does go away, but in another year's time, the problem will again resurface, and this time it will measure 7 out of 10 on the "how serious scale". The magic button is again available, but the probability of it working now drops to 60%. And, of course, even if it does work, the problem will return once again, and become more serious. This pattern will continue until you are stuck with a health problem measuring 10 out of 10. Would you want to walk this road? Probably not; I know I wouldn't. But using chemical drugs and suppressing symptoms does precisely this - masking the problem while damaging one's body more and more in the long run. When you stop a cough or a runny nose, you are stemming your body's attempt to clean itself. You are also harming your immune system, because in the long run, your body may forget or give up creating coughs and runny noses. Another example is medication for high blood pressure, which weakens the heart. When you develop a chronic illness, your body is already weak and loaded with toxins, yet you take drugs, which then further poison the body and make it harder to effect a cure. These methods clearly violate the principle of "first do no harm", and goes against how the human body works. This natural health principle adheres to the Hippocratic Oath or Hippocratic principle of "First Do No Harm". Working with the body makes sense, because the body has the innate wisdom and ability for self-preservation, to keep itself alive and well, and to GET WELL. This is sometimes termed a "healing reaction" or a "detox reaction", and is due to the body's attempts to clean, detoxify and heal itself. This could be in a form of a headache or extreme tiredness, among others. For example, when one undergoes a detoxification program using juices and herbs, toxins are flushed from one's organs and tissues, where they have been stored for years, and are brought back into circulation. This could make one feel sick, until they are removed from the body via the elimination channels, after which one starts to heal and feel better. The human body works in mysterious and wonderful ways - and one of the most important things we have to remember is to 'first do no harm' to it!
