Foods That Detox The BodyThere are some natural foods that detox the body, and these detoxification foods help to flush out toxins from the body and assist in improving overall health. Garlic - a key ingredient in any type of cooking the world over, garlic is a powerful cleanser that rids the body of toxins from the inside out. It also boosts the functioning of the immune system, thereby providing insurance against the onset of illnesses. In addition, garlic lowers cholesterol levels and is a blood thinner, helping to prevent clots forming in the blood. Cranberries - Cranberries are powerful foods that detox the body due to the high antioxidants and nutrients it contains. This makes it very efficient at flushing out accumulated toxins from the body. While on a detoxification program, cranberries are recommended just by themselves, to snack on, and also as a substitute for fast food / aerated drinks etc; it can be consumed as berries or juice, or both. Apple Cider Vinegar - Apple cider vinegar has been revered down the centuries by the ancient civilizations for its health restoring and rejuvenation attributes. It is power-packed with nutrients that boosts the immune system, heals the body at many levels and improves the digestive process. It is an effective detoxification remedy and is known to flush out toxins quickly. Lemons - Lemonade and lemons in any form in the diet are great foods that detox the body, and they have been part and parcel of healthy detoxification plans in many cultures world-wide. Indeed, they have been used very effectively for hundreds of years to flush toxins out from the body. The lemonade diet, tough as it may seem for beginners, is an effective and quick method of giving the body a fresh, clean start, by getting rid of accumulated toxins over a period of 7 - 10 days. Besides detoxification, the other obvious benefit of a lemonade diet is drastic weight loss and other health benefits like freedom from allergies, constipation, digestive problems, etc. Fruits and Vegetables - Fresh fruits and vegetables are excellent natural foods that detox the body, and are highly recommended during a detoxification regimen. These include green vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, sprouts, onions, garlic, beets, etc. Citrus fruits, apples, pineapple, figs, grapes, melons, grapefruit, cranberries, etc are also good for detoxification diets. Grains and Rice - Grains such as millet, buckwheat, quinoa, amaranth can be substituted for rice when on a detoxification diet. If rice must be consumed, brown rice is preferred due to its high fiber content. Beans - Pinto beans, garbanzo beans, adzuki beans, and kidney beans are good options when on a detoxification diet, though split peas (yellow and green) are the easiest to cook and digest, and therefore the ideal item on a detoxification program. Seeds and Nuts - Seeds such as sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, and flaxseed are highly packed with nutrients and low on calories. These are very high on the dietary list when detoxifying. Also, unsalted nuts like walnuts, almonds, peanuts can be had in small quantities as a snack or sprinkled over salads to give it flavour and texture. Spices, Condiments and Oil - Vegetable and sea salts are recommended while on a detoxification diet, instead of regular salt. Also, vinegar, soy sauce and tamari are good sources of flavoring, as are all other herbs and spices. The oil of choice is extra virgin olive oil, since it is low fat and does not contribute to cholesterol build up. Tea and other beverages - Herbal teas and green teas are also very useful foods that detox the body and are good while on a detoxification plan. Also, other fluids such as water (minimum intake of 8 glasses), fresh, sugar-less fruit and vegetable juices are recommended.
Notice that the foods that detox the body mentioned here are all vegetarian foods. Indeed, and one cannot expect animal flesh and food products to help with detoxifying the body; on the contrary, they tend to produce mucus and clog up bodily systems with all their fat, cholesterol and toxins. The best detoxification effects are obtained via a vegetarian diet containing mostly (if not only) raw, organic plant-based foods.
