About Foot Detox Pads or PatchesFoot detox pads or patches are touted to be one of the safest and most effective detoxification processes, or so the manufacturers of the detoxification patches would have one believe. How valid are these claims? This process of detoxification works by removing toxins from the human body while one is sleeping. It is a universal fact that the accumulation of toxins in the body leads to chronic and acute diseases and hence it is very important to detoxify the body from time to time. Detoxification via foot patches assists in this process by absorbing toxins through the feet, thereby promoting well being and good health. These foot patches or plasters are stuck to the soles of the feet prior to going to sleep and are removed in the morning. These patches show signs of discoloration when taken off in the morning, and the brown, green or black discoloration is believed to indicate the toxins that have been absorbed by the foot detox pads or patches during the process of detoxification in the night. The mechanism at work in the process of detoxification is that the pores of the skin on the feet are opened by the foot detox pad or patch, which then absorbs the toxic elements from the circulatory and lymphatic systems through the skin via osmosis, thereby ensuring the body gets detoxified. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, or TCM, the human body has approximately 360 points of acupuncture, and about a third of these, over 60 in number, are found on the soles of the feet. As per TCM, the feet are the second heart and considered to be the reflective areas of the health of the internal organs. The feet are therefore a potential home for toxins and a channel to bring about detoxification of the whole body, without the accompanying side effects that would be a part of other rapid and intense detoxification processes. The constituents of the detoxification foot pads are certain medicinal ingredients from traditional Japanese and Asian medicinal systems. Typically, the constituents are Tourmaline, which is a gemstone that gives out negative ions, and also bamboo vinegar, which is another ingredient in foot detox patches which assists the human body in the release of toxic products via the skin pores. A third ingredient of the foot detox pad or patch is wood vinegar, which has a similar effect as bamboo vinegar. In totality with all ingredients, the foot pads work on the principle of reflexology which is a science that divides the foot into zones or areas that correspond with specific organ systems in the body. The science of reflexology states that toxic products that accumulate in these organ systems will be found in the corresponding zones in the feet, from where they can be drawn out and eliminated in the process of detoxification via the foot detox pads. The 'technology' for these detoxification patches is believed to have been founded in Japan, and Japanese detox foot pads are most commonly and popularly used. One of the better known brand names is the Takara detox foot patch.
Do the foot detox pads work? One thing seems quite certain, and it is that these patches or plasters do seem to induce better sleep and enable one to awake in the morning feeling better rested and more refreshed. As for toxin removal, the best way to find out is probably to take the foot detox patches or pads to a laboratory and to do a before-and-after testing for chemicals and compounds which may have been removed or detoxified from the body. This is something which I intend to carry out sometime in the future, and, once done, I will definitely report my results. To read about the ionic detox foot bath, click here.
