A note about Herbal Treatment for Asthma - Some SuggestionsIn natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases. In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies. The aged inner bark of the elder plant can be used for spasmodic asthma with a lot of phlegm and thick mucus. A tablespoonful of its infusion can be used. The fresh bark should be avoided, for it can irritate the body and also be poisonous to children. To alleviate the possible effects of throwing up, powered cloves can be added. One herb which is known to sooth the lungs and to expectorate phlegm is mullein. A possible combination is mullein together with plantain and sage. Inhaling the vapor of mullein tea may also be good for asthmatics. It may be helpful for an asthmatic or someone predisposed to the condition to inhale steam from a decoction of certain herbs. The following combination of herbs could be used: equal parts of elecampane root, horehounds, hyssop, skunk cabbage root, vervain, and wild cherry bark, together with some lobelia tincture added to this herbal treatment for asthma. Dr John Christopher, the great natural healer and herbalist, was said to have an Herbal Respiratory Formula which was good as an herbal treatment for asthma and other lung disorders. It comprises of chickweed, comfrey root, lobelia, marshmallow root, and mullein, and can be used in the form of capsules or tea. This herbal formula has been used to deal with various ailments related to irritation of the respiratory system. More information on using herbs, herbal remedies, and other aspects of natural health and healing to deal with asthma are discussed in the other related asthma pages.
