A note about Infant Yeast Infection - Causes and Useful Home RemediesIn natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases. In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies. So what causes them and what can you do about them? First of all, don't confuse a diaper rash with a yeast infection. A diaper rash can develop due to wetness, chaffing, and sensitivity. However, if you treat the rash and it won't go away, then it could be a yeast infection. Everyone has at least some amount of yeast in their system. It's natural. Yeast likes to live in an environment that is wet and warm. That's why it grows so well in the vaginal region. However, it can also grow in the mouth, skin, and bowels as well. If a diaper rash is left untreated, then it can develop into a yeast infection, because that area does stay tightly covered up and can be damp and warm. If your infant breastfeeds and you are taking antibiotics, or if the baby is on antibiotics, then infant yeast infections can develop, because antibiotics tend to kill the good bacteria which helps keep yeast balanced in the body. Your infant can also develop yeast infection in its mouth. If there is one present there, then don't be surprised if one also develops in the diaper area, since the yeast will pass from the mouth down through the digestive system and out through the stools. Baking soda is one natural way of treating infant yeast infections. You can make a paste out of baking soda and water and apply it to your nipples if you are breastfeeding. Just make sure that you rinse it off before the baby feeds. You can also sprinkle baking soda in the baby's bath water, too. Apple cider vinegar can also help cure an infant yeast infection. However, it has to be strongly diluted. Add 1 tablespoon to 1 cup of water and apply it to the infected area with a cotton ball and allow it to dry. It is also very important to practice good hygiene. Make sure that you do not allow your infant to wear diapers that are damp or wet. In addition, make sure that you dry your infant's bottom and genitals when you are changing them and after they have had a bath. Wash out your bras and nursing pads regularly and add vinegar to help kill any yeast that might be present. If your baby has an infant yeast infection inside their mouth, then you want to make sure that you avoid giving them any sugar and you wipe out the inside of their mouth with a wet washcloth after feeding. This ensures that they don't have a lot of food residue hanging around. Keep in mind that yeast infections in infants are actually pretty common and are not necessarily a sign of neglect or anything that you are doing wrong on your part. If you try natural methods of getting rid of the yeast, however, and the infant yeast infection persists, then you might want to take your baby to his pediatrician.
