A note about MRSA Prevention Tips

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

Even though the staph bacterium doesn’t always cause problems, it can if it enters the body through a cut or sore, and is especially dangerous for those who are older or have a compromised immune system. And since conventional treatment doesn’t seem to be effective, and as this superbug is highly contagious and has begun affecting otherwise healthy people, looking at MRSA prevention is your best bet for the safety of you and your loved ones,.

MRSA and other staph infections of the skin usually start out as little reddish bumps that are often mistaken for pimples or bug bites. The infection can remain on the skin or spread and penetrate deep into the tissue, causing infections in other parts of the body, including the bones. Sores that are reddish, warm to the touch or pus-filled should be examined immediately.

MRSA used to be most commonly found in hospitals and healthcare facilities, but have now been making their way into the community, with a particular presence in sports teams and schools where people are more likely to come into personal contact with one another.

Sharing things like towels and sports equipment puts you at higher risk of passing the infection back and forth. And while you may not be able to avoid certain situations because no one wants to live their life in a bubble, there are steps you can take to help with MRSA prevention no matter where you are.

Tips for Preventing MRSA

  • Wash your hands thoroughly and often. Hand washing is your best defense in MRSA prevention as well as the prevention of other illnesses. Proper hand washing means scrubbing your hands with soap for at least 15 seconds (or as long as it takes to sing the Happy Birthday song) and then drying with a clean towel or paper towel. Hand sanitizer is a must to have on hand for those times that soap and water isn’t available to you. To minimize chemical exposure, use natural cleaning agents.

  • Make others wash their hands. It doesn’t matter if it’s your nurse or doctor or even just a friend; you have the right to ask them to wash their hands or put on gloves before making contact. This is your health after all, so it’s best to be safe than sorry. They’ll understand.

  • Don’t share personal or intimate items. Any item that has come into contact with your skin or bodily fluids such as sweat should not be shared with others to avoid putting yourself or others at risk - another important tip for MRSA prevention.

  • Have skin lesions checked out. If you have any type of skin irritation that you’re not sure of, you need to have it looked at to rule out MRSA. Open sores also put you at a higher risk of infection, so do your best to keep wounds clean and covered.

  • Avoid unnecessary use of antibiotics. The overuse of antibiotics is to blame for our body’s inability to fight MRSA with a round of antibiotics, because of the resistance they build up. Avoid using antibiotics for every little thing that ails you, like the common cold or flu, which doesn’t need to be treated with antibiotics anyway; antibiotics only weaken your immune system over time.

Being diligent about hygiene and doing all you can to keep your immune system healthy is your best defense when it comes to MRSA prevention. Do your part and encourage your loved ones to do the same.
