A note about Removing Genital Warts - Common TreatmentsIn natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases. In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies. Over the counter medications are the most commonly used methods - in part for convenience, and partially for reasons of privacy. Treatments by a physician or qualified professional are needed in more serious cases, while home remedies are becoming increasingly popular. Though a strong immune system can rid the body of the human papilloma virus (HPV - the cause of genital warts), most often, the infection lasts a lifetime, dormant in the cells until the next outbreak. There are prescription medications as well as over the counter methods of dealing with the warts that can help control outbreak and even for removing genital warts, but there is none for the virus itself. And transmission of the virus that causes genital warts is possible not only from partner to partner, but even from one part of an infected person's body to another. In addition to occurring on the penis, vulva, scrotum and peri-anal areas of the body, genital warts can also plague the vagina, anus, and even the mouth. Genital warts often go undetected unless they are large, in clusters, or in very obvious places. Sometimes, there is itching or discomfort, but not generally. Those who suffer visible genital warts are most often simultaneously infected with several strains of HPV. There are several topical creams on the market that can be purchased over the counter that aid in removing genital warts. Treatment methods can be either chemical or ablative, both having a response rate of approximately 60 to 90%. Several of the cream choices come packaged for single use convenience, and they work by helping the immune system to fight the infection when applied as directed. Generally, this consists of a thin layer application to visible warts and rubbed in. This procedure is repeated for three days with a four day break before beginning again. Repeat this method in this manner for up to 16 weeks. Other treatment methods for removing genital warts work in varying degree by the coagulation of wart tissue, by causing tissue death, or by producing a protein in the cells which inhibits further replication of the virus. Sexual intercourse is not recommended at this time, even when planning to use a condom, as the creams can weaken the integrity of the condom as well as a diaphragm. For larger warts that are bothersome, there is a method for removing genital warts called cryotherapy. For this procedure, the wart is frozen before removal. There is also a loop method, where a sharp loop type instrument is pulled under the wart to cut it from the skin. This should only be performed by a professional, as there are seven layers of skin that will have to be carefully dealt with. This is known as loop electrosurgical excision procedure, or LEEP. Warts can be removed by the use of a carbon dioxide laser treatment - possibly the most noninvasive of all the methods. It can send up small clouds containing the HPV, so care must be taken in this respect. Of course, there are also natural treatments and home remedies for removing genital warts - you can learn about them through the other related warts articles and pages on this website.
