A note about Common Sinusitis Symptoms and Signs

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

Acute, or sudden, sinusitis is generally caused by a viral infection. When caused by a viral infection, although the symptoms might last several weeks, they usually start to go away after about a week with home treatment. However, if the infection is a bacterial infection, then it might not clear up on its own.

Chronic sinusitis is long-term and is generally caused by a fungal infection or bacterial infection. Although home remedies and natural treatments can be good at treating chronic sinusitis symptoms, you might also need to visit an allergist to make sure that there isn't something else triggering the infections.

One of the main sinusitis symptoms is pain in your facial region. You might feel pain and pressure around your cheeks and in your forehead. Moving your head from side to side, or pressing on your face, is likely to make this pain and pressure worse. You might even find that when lying down, the pressure will all move to one side of your face, and then to the other when you turn over.

The pain associated with sinusitis can be confusing. Some people confuse sinus pressure with a toothache. That's because one of the symptoms of sinusitis is pain in the upper teeth, which can be caused by maxillary sinus inflammation. Pain behind the eyes, in both temples, or on top of the head is caused by sphenoid sinus inflammation, and can be confused with a migraine, on the other hand.

A yellow or green discharge from your nose is also a sinusitis symptom, although you might not always have this discharge. Sometimes, you might feel so "stuffed up" that it feels as though nothing can drain properly. Nasal obstruction is another symptom of sinusitis.

Some people experience postnasal drip with sinusitis, which is when the sinuses drain down the back of the throat. This can cause bad breath, a decrease in smell and taste, and coughing. It can also lead to a scratchy voice and, in some cases, inflammation. Some people have even reported laryngitis with sinusitis, due to the inflammation that post nasal drip can cause.

Less common sinusitis symptoms and signs include stuffy ears, puffy eyes, snoring, fatigue, asthma, chronic cold, coughing, and chronic throat clearing.

If you have chronic sinusitis, then infections can come and go throughout the year and it might feel as though you never fully recover from one. Using home treatments to treat the sinusitis symptoms can bring relief to the pain and other symptoms that occur with sinusitis, but might not clear up the infection itself, thus allowing it to return. For that reason, it is important to treat a bacterial infection as a real infection, and not just as a cold or an allergy attack.
