A note about Ulcerative Colitis Symptoms - Common Signs

In natural health and healing, we believe in holistic health and healing, as we realize that different parts of the human body are highly interlinked, often beyond Man's understanding. We also believe that the body has the ability to heal itself of any disease, even supposedly incurable diseases.

In order to do so, the body needs the support of some basic dietary and lifestyle good health habits, such as a full body detox and a proper understanding and application of nutrition. No matter how remote or unrelated a health condition may seem, these fundamental health steps will greatly magnify the effects and benefits of any of our health-promoting efforts, including the use of specific natural health remedies.

While some sufferers experience only mild symptoms, others have symptoms so severe they can be disabling. In both situations, flare-ups can be occasional, more frequent, or chronic.

In the majority of cases, symptoms will come and go with lengthy periods in between. While all sufferers of ulcerative colitis do not experience all the symptoms of the disease at once, there are some common ones that are relatively consistent. These ulcerative colitis symptoms include diarrhea (most common), blood in the stools (can be accompanied by pus or mucus), a feeling as if you need to have a bowel movement but cannot (known as tenesmus), nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain (can mean severe inflammation, abscess or wall perforation), and / or cramping.

Fever, varying stages of fatigue, and appetite loss are also common ulcerative colitis symptoms, as are weight loss, weakness, and a general sick feeling. With chronic diarrhea, there is a definite possibility for water and nutrient loss during active periods, which may result in symptoms such as dry mouth, a fast heartbeat, and sunken eyes. Less common is constipation during active periods.

People learn the hard way that the physical aspects of ulcerative colitis are not all that affect them. There is an emotional and / or stress factor that must be dealt with as well.

When your life revolves around the need to remain near the toilet, local excursions (church or for groceries) can keep you from leaving the house for fear of an accident. Anxiety is bound to surface and, along with it, the ulcerative colitis symptoms can worsen. In some cases, the sufferers of severe ulcerative colitis fall into periods of isolation and depression.

Risk factors for those who suffer ulcerative colitis are age (more frequent in those around the age of 30), race (whites or of Jewish descent are at highest risks), and family history. Though this disease is not often fatal, it can be quite serious. Anyone experiencing ulcerative colitis symptoms such as abdominal pain, blood in the stool, fever lasting more than a few days, or chronic bouts of diarrhea that are not at least slowed down by medications, should consider seeing a doctor, as some have experienced other organ complications, such as joint discomfort, skin complications, eye sensitivity to light, blurred vision, and / or problems with the liver.

Homoeopathy medicines work well with ulcerative colitis concerning the management of various ulcerative colitis symptoms as well as its potential complications.

The combination of a probiotic and a prebiotic dietary treatment (called symbiotic therapy) should be implemented to combat the effects of the ulcer on the stomach. Because red meats, certain oils and polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) all increase the risk of ulcerative colitis, they should be greatly modified in the sufferer's diet, while eating more fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids will lower the risk of the disease. Be sure to include plenty of fruits, vegetables, and nut oils, too.
